Financial Information

At Highland Alzheimer’s Care we believe in honest straight forward pricing for the high quality person centered care that we provide.  Our prices are entirely related to room type (companion room or private room) and the level of care that is required to appropriately support each individual.  Care levels are determined by assessing each person at the time their admission and as needed thereafter.  Highland’s prices are “all inclusive” except for beauty/barber shop services which are billed once a month (at rates that are really quite modest).  Click here for specific information on the cost to stay with us.

Scores of current and past customers have commented favorably on the quality of the care that their loved ones have received while residing at Highland.  They tell us over and over that they perceive our services to be an excellent value for such specialized long term care.  We acknowledge that the kind of care that we deliver at Highland is by no means “cheap” or “inexpensive”.  So, we ask you to please check us out and/or ask around and you will find that compared to the competition, Highland is simultaneously more affordable and provides the best possible care for anyone living with advanced Alzheimer’s disease or dementia from any other cause, PERIOD!

Highland Alzheimer’s Care offers service packages under the following headings:

Highland is a Private Pay residential care facility.  This generally means that a resident will be responsible to personally pay for the costs associated with his or her care.  Highland is a state licensed “Home for the Aged” which is the highest form of Assisted Living facility, we are not a Nursing Home (also know as a Skilled Care Facility or a Medical Care Facility).  Because we are not a medical care facility, we are not certified to bill Medicare nor Medicaid for the care that we provide.  Please click here  to see detailed information regarding the rates for our Companion Rooms and Private Rooms and descriptions of our Care Levels.

In addition to personal funds, there are several funding sources that help people to pay for their stay at Highland.  Many of Highland’s current and past residents have received financial assistance from one or more of the following:

Private Long Term Care Insurance.  More and more people have invested in this unique form of insurance that pays for institutional long term care for covered insured’s.  Highland personnel will assist a resident’s family to do the necessary paperwork to redeem Long Term Care Insurance benefits.  This could include the initial forms and documents and continue with monthly verification of the services that have been provided.

Qualified wartime veterans may be eligible for the “Aid & Attendance” benefit provided by the Veterans Administration.  This is a valuable benefit for those who qualify.  It is a program that provides funds to get extra help for qualified veterans (and/or a surviving spouse) who can no longer take care of themselves.  This is a benefit that is paid to the recipient directly and may be used to pay for care at home or in a long term care facility.  Please call us to get more information or find out how and where to apply for this wonderful benefit.

Working together with the Region II Area Agency on Aging Highland has recently agreed to participate in the MI Choice Waiver program which will help Medicaid eligible men and women to afford Highland’s specialized dementia care services.

The Jackson County Department on Aging has contracted with Highland to provide Adult Day Care and Overnight Respite Care services.  For qualified lower income county residents the Department on Aging will pay the full cost of this type of intermittent care (on a limited basis).
