Private Long Term Care Insurance. More and more people have invested in this unique form of insurance that pays for institutional long term care for covered insured’s. Highland personnel will assist a resident’s family to do the necessary paperwork to redeem Long Term Care Insurance benefits. This could include the initial forms and documents and continue with monthly verification of the services that have been provided.

Qualified wartime veterans may be eligible for the “Aid & Attendance” benefit provided by the Veterans Administration. This is a valuable benefit for those who qualify. It is a program that provides funds to get extra help for qualified veterans (and/or a surviving spouse) who can no longer take care of themselves. This is a benefit that is paid to the recipient directly and may be used to pay for care at home or in a long term care facility. Working together with the Region II Area Agency on Aging Highland has recently agreed to participate in the MI Choice Waiver program which will help Medicaid eligible men and women to afford Highland’s specialized dementia care services.

The Jackson County Department on Aging has contracted with Highland to provide Adult Day Care and Overnight Respite Care services. For qualified lower income county residents the Department on Aging will pay the full cost of this type of intermittent care (on a limited basis).
